🇬🇷 Country #7 - Athens, Greece

Ultra Marathon in Athens, where the Marathon was born.

Athens welcomed us with beautiful weather and an incredible atmosphere for country number seven of the Run for Voices challenge.

We started the run from one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the Acropolis. From there, the route took us down through the city streets all the way to the seaside of Athens, running east along the coast before turning back toward the historic centre.

Athens is a city where history is everywhere. As the kilometres passed, we could see layers of ancient culture surrounding us, reminding me how many generations have walked these streets before.

Like many ultra-marathons, this run felt good but challenging at the same time. The legs were working, the distance was real, but the experience of running through such a historic city made every kilometre meaningful.

I was fortunate to have great company along the way.

My friend Luigi joined from England, and Peter travelled from Hungary to share part of the journey. Having people alongside you during an ultra-marathon always makes the distance feel more manageable.

A special thank you also goes to Ekaterini, a local national-level runner who helped enormously with the logistics of the run. Local support is something that makes every country in this challenge possible, and I’m always grateful for the kindness of people who help bring these runs together.

Athens reminded me once again that Run for Voices is not just about running. It is about building a global journey that raises awareness for throat cancer, a disease that affects thousands of people and families every year.

My uncle passed away from throat cancer, and this challenge was created to turn that loss into something meaningful.

From the next country onward, every run will also highlight the story of someone who has been directly affected by throat cancer — whether they are a patient, survivor, or family member. Their voices deserve to be heard, and their stories deserve to travel with every kilometre of this journey.

Athens was country number seven.

And the journey continues.
